The ladies from the graduating class of 1975 decided to go to the beach after the last day of school. We planned our trip carefully. The first stop was Lori Caparelli's house to change into our bathing suits and then our clothing over them. All of our under garments, towels, and cash were placed in one girl's bag. We hopped on the bus which took us down to the dock. We purchased out tickets for the ferry, The Little Toot, and waited for it to arrive and take us to the peninsula. Somehow THE BAG fell into the water off the dock! We girls screamed, yelled, and tried to reach over the side to retrieve THE BAG. The water level was too low. Cindy Le Faiver, star of the SJS swim team sprang into action. She peeled of her outer clothing and dove into the slimy water of bay. She reached the bag and then brought it back to our out stretched arms. THE BAG was safe! Cindy was not. How were we going to get her out of the water? We got a pole from the little food shack. Not long enough! We told her to swim down to the end. She was too tired! Finally two long shore man types came to our rescue. The leaned over the side as they lay on their stomachs and hulled Cindy up. Her skin was scraped raw and covered with seaweed and slime. We made a pack to never tell anyone and proceeded on our trip to the beach. Years later I was visiting Cindy at her parent's house. Mrs. LeFaiver was being taken care of at home and did it would not be long before she would be called home to see Jesus. Cindy decided it was time to "fess up." The asked her mom if she remembered the time she came home all scraped up because "Janie Fuhrmann pushed her off the dock!" Her mom remembered. "Well mom," she continued, "She didn't push me. I jumped in to save our underwear and money," Mrs. LeFaiver went to heaven knowing the truth, that he daughter threw her best friend under the bus!
THANK YOU for having the Fish Dinner this year! Delicious and great seeing so many people fill up Pastors' Hall. Thank you! Fr. Teller's and the sisters showed me how to be a better person. |
"Chicken fights at the beach about two weeks after our graduation".
Mrs. Maleno and our awesome homemade lunches in the school cafeteria. Eating toast and hot chocolate after morning mass in the cafeteria. The festivals on 26th & Ash, turkey raffles, Ash Wednesday fish dinners, spaghetti dinners, fun nights, Buettner tournament and so much more! "Hoot-n-Nanny Mass in the basement of the church." Holding the door open and carrying their lunch trays for our teachers. Hoping that Fr. Teller’s would hand out our report cards because he was always so kind. Tri-Annual Alumni and Friends Picnic ~ 600 plus people in attendance ~ great fun! The class of '66 went to the peninsula for a day of fun, much like the class of '75. Many of us walked to the foot of State Street to ride the ferry across. We had oodles of fun, but most memorable was the game of Hide 'n Seek.....we found out later that many of us hid in poison ivy! Ouch Thank you so very much for a wonderful 2013 picnic! It was another wonderful weekend of fun with the SJS Alumni! Can't tell you how fabulous it was at Randy and DJ's event! It was great seeing so many people from the past and big congratulations go out to both of these great guys! Thank you for Fifth Friday Fun.....great people enjoying a nice evening with good music! St. John's gave us one of the best foundations we, in Marvintown, could have wished for. The unappreciated discipline was and still is a blessing in disguise. |
